Marin Builders Association Partners with Leadership Novato Team to Help Build Outdoor Learning Center at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Novato
Novato, CA, May 2022: A new outdoor learning center at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Novato was completed earlier this month, coordinated by a team of volunteers from the Leadership Novato program. Work on the project began in September 2021 and culminated this month in the unveiling of a stage, backdrop, storage shed, and seating in a newly resurfaced, previously defunct field at the school.
The Leadership Novato team tasked with building the outdoor learning center at Pleasant Valley Elementary School was comprised of Katie Gauntlett (Deputy Director, Novato Parks, Recreation & Community Services), Erin Lacey (Event Producer and Novato City Commissioner), Mike Taul (Captain, Novato Fire), Debbie Campas (Trust Officer, Bank of Marin), and Tamara Hull (CPA, Jannisse & Hull CPAs). Leadership Novato is a 9-month program sponsored by the Novato Chamber of Commerce that aims to identify, train, and engage the leaders of tomorrow and give them the tools to be effective in their community. Each class takes on multiple community service projects.
Marin Builders Association joined several community partners including Tom Eller and the ROP Construction Technology Class at Redwood High School, NUSD, Rotary Club of Novato, Jannisse & Hull CPAs, and Bank of Marin. At Pleasant Valley Elementary, the outdoor learning center concept was championed by Principal Tony Quan and PTA President Laurie Jepma. The result is an attractive, multipurpose space that gives children and educators at Pleasant Valley Elementary School an outdoor area for performances, classes, and community gatherings.
