• Recent Changes in Guidance from Cal/OSHA and the CDC that Affect the Workplace Response to COVID-19

    Please familiarize yourself with the following new regulations/guidelines:


    1. Cal/OSHA has recently issued Cal/OSHA Emergency Regulations to Protect Workers from COVID-19, which are now in effect. There is a one-page fact sheetand FAQs which provide a summary of the regulations. Requirements include:
      1. A site-specific, written COVID-19 prevention (see model COVID-19 prevention program) to address COVID-19 health hazards, correct unsafe or unhealthy conditions, and provide face coverings.
      2. Employers must provide COVID-19 testing and notify local health departments when there are multiple COVID-19 infections or outbreaks at the workplace.
      3. Accurate record keeping and reporting of COVID-19 cases is required.
      4. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued new guidelines permitting the    shortening of the quarantine period for close contacts (isolation guidance for COVID-19 cases remains unchanged): All exposed persons must monitor for symptoms  thru Day 14; if any symptoms develop, they should immediately self-isolate and contact their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing.
      5. Marin County residents can reduce quarantine to 10 days without testing if no symptoms have developed.
      6. Marin County residents can reduce quarantine to 7 days if a diagnostic molecular test for COVID-19 (RT-PCR) is negative and if no symptoms have developed.
        i. The specimen must be collected no earlier than 5 days after last contact with a person who has COVID-19.
        ii. Quarantine cannot be discontinued earlier than after Day 7. Exposed persons must have a negative COVID-19 test result before ending quarantine.
    2. Marin County, along with the state of California and much of the country, is experiencing a surge of COVID-19 cases. Please encourage your employees to stay home from work and get tested if they feel ill, and remind essential workers who work with the public (grocery store, restaurant, retail, daycare, construction workers, etc.) to get tested on a monthly basis (for testing sites, please consult Marin County testing information).
