Help has Arrived: The County of Marin has launched its new Accessory Dwelling Unit Technical Assistance Pilot program helping homeowners in the Unincorporated Areas navigate the process of adding an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) or a Junior ADU (JADU) to their homes.
HelloADU, a program of nonprofit Hello Housing, offers support services to homeowners who are ready to take the next steps in building an ADU or a JADU, but could benefit from the support and expertise in doing so. Participating homeowners will receive free project feasibility and project management support from nonprofit Hello Housing to help them navigate the complicated process of designing, constructing, and renting an ADU or a JADU.
While the idea of developing a second unit is compelling to many homeowners, the process itself can feel daunting for most. This is especially true for homeowners facing the very life transitions that make ADUs attractive (new empty nesters, overcrowded households, seniors transitioning to fixed incomes, households who seek to create affordable housing for friends and family). By offering free feasibility and project management services to qualified homeowners, Hello Housing and the County of Marin can unlock the backyards of the North Bay to create new homes within the fabric of existing neighborhoods.
