OFFICIAL NOTICE: New Law Impacting Construction and Demolition Debris Collection

A new law was passed that updates San Francisco’s Construction and Demolition Debris Recovery Ordinance (Environment Code Chapter 14) and Public Works Code Section 725. This new law (Ordinance) requires any person or company that collects and transports mixed construction and demolition debris (mixed C&D debris) originating in the City and County of San Francisco to obtain an annual and/or 7-day permit issued by the San Francisco Department of the Environment (SFE) for each vehicle, or each debris box, used for this purpose.

Members of an association or organization that are involved in construction and demolition activities in San Francisco may be impacted by this new permit requirement. Beginning July 1, 2022, any person or company that transports mixed C&D debris from San Francisco jobsites is required to obtain a permit for each vehicle or each debris box used to transport mixed C&D Debris under the new tiered permit and fee system established by the Ordinance.

Please view the Construction and Demolition Debris Ordinance Update Fact Sheet (link below) for a summary of Ordinance requirements and the permit fee schedule.
