    Did You Know? “Affordable” housing can top $1 million per unit  

    We all know inflation has increased prices for just about everything, including building materials and labor, two major inputs into the cost of new housing. A new report by the Los Angeles Times reviewed seven affordable housing projects in Northern California and found the cost per unit was more than $1 million. The report included data from the UC Berkeley Terner Center for Housing Innovation citing costs of affordable housing are driven upwards by labor and environmental regulations specific to California.

    The seven projects were all in the Bay Area (none in Marin County), which we already know has high housing costs, so readers might not be surprised - but we at MEF were.
