AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture + Design present the 16th Annual Architecture + the City festival

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) July 24, 2019 —The American Institute of Architects, (AIASF) and the Center for Architecture + Design are pleased to announce the 16th annual Architecture + the City festival September 1-30. One of the nation’s largest architectural festivals celebrating San Francisco’s unique built environment and design community, the festival features exclusive building tours, authors’ series, lectures, panel discussions, and an exhibition featuring Bay Area artists. This year’s festival theme, “We the City” will explore how cultural diversity and connectivity inspire and inform the built environment through more than 30 programs offerings including the highly-acclaimed San Francisco Living: Home Tours on September 21 which will showcase five modern residences in different neighborhoods throughout the City.

“We are excited to bring the community together to explore interdisciplinary design perspectives aimed at strengthening the physical and social infrastructure in San Francisco,” says Stacy Williams, Interim Executive Director, AIASF and Center for Architecture + Design. “As the city strives to balance the needs of a rapidly growing population, we will explore sustainable growth solutions in response to these evolving challenges."

The branding concept for this year's Architecture and the City festival program was developed by artist Amos Goldbaum who explains, "I try to capture the multiple scales of the city in one image, in one-line width. I drew this scene showing the confluence of residential, commercial, and natural landscapes."

Goldbaum's artwork, along with a curated collection of works by local Bay Area artists will be on view in an exhibition in the AIASF Center for Architecture+ Design Gallery through September 30. Branded merchandise will be available by Amos Goldbaum during the festival.

This year's Architecture + the City festival kicks off with the Opening Night Party at DZINE (128 Utah Street) on Friday, August 30 and launches into the month of September with over 30 programs celebrating the varied facets of design, aiming to connect and inspire the public, design enthusiasts, architects, and designers. The monthlong festivities include behind-the-scenes tours, lectures, and special events providing unique opportunities to engage with the local architecture community and experience design in multiple ways throughout the city.

"San Francisco is recognized as a leader and investor in the future of the sustainable urban environment. I look forward to having new partners join us in the conversation as we continue to work towards a better future for our city," says Kamala Subbarayan, Center for Architecture + Design Board President.
