Waking Dream tells the stories of six undocumented young people waiting in limbo between deportation and a path to citizenship. Through the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, nearly 800,000 undocumented young people (also known as Dreamers) have been provided a chance to work legally, go to college, start businesses, and pursue the American Dream. Bay Area filmmaker Theo Rigby’s latest documentary follows the unfolding fate of six of these young people after DACA is rescinded—as they fight for legal status in the U.S., struggle with the deportation of family members, and pursue their dreams in a country that is trying harder and harder to push them out.
A panel discussion will follow the film featuring director Theo Rigby, film subject Steve Li, and Canal Alliance Director of Immigration and Social Services Lucia Martel-Dow. Join the conversation about our current immigration crisis and learn what Canal Alliance is doing to support immigrants here in Marin.
