Dear Friends,
PG&E is offering an 811 (Safe Digging) training in San Rafael on Wednesday December 9, 7:30 to 9:30am at Embassy Suites, 101 McInnis Parkway San Rafael. This free training is designed for novice excavator and the experienced construction professional. Please scroll down to register for the event.
Almost daily someone mistakenly digs into utility lines resulting in fines, damages, repair costs, lost work time, project delays and sometimes road closures or evacuations. I share this recent example in Napa, however and unfortunately people regularly dig into a utilities in cities throughout California.
PG&E has a web based educational tool www.pge.com\811 that reviews safe digging practices. Please share this information with anyone who plans to hire workers or perform their own digging work to avoid underground utilities such as gas, electric, sewer, and water. If your jurisdiction is able, please consider adding this information to your permitting webpage.
It is very easy to find out in advance what utilities may lie below an area where someone is planning to dig. Projects that require digging are often planned weeks, months, or years in advance. Calling 811 at least two business days before a planned digging project allows general area identification and types of underground utilities.
Call 811 and “Know What’s Below Before You Dig”
